별자리 뜨기

Stars shine because their surroundings are dark. The way of drawing is similar. Between brightness and darkness, shapes are formed and outlines are revealed. If you draw a black line on a white background, a shape is created through contrast. Between white and black, forms emerge, and filling the surface with shading creates an illusion of depth on a flat plane. In the paintings of Baroque artists, the face of a figure shining brightly between dark shadows and black backgrounds looks as if a beam of light is pouring out. The white sparkle that appears among the dark landscape stands out even more in contrast to its surroundings.
별이 빛나는 것은 주위가 어둡기 때문이다. 그림도 그러하다. 밝음과 어두움 사이에서 형상이 빚어지고 윤곽이 드러난다. 흰 바탕에 검은 선을 그으면 대비로 형상이 생겨난다. 흰 색과 검은 색 사이에서 형상이 빚어지고, 면을 채워 명암을 그려내면 평면 위에 입체라는 환상을 느끼게 된다. 바로크 시대 화가들의 그림에서 짙은 그림자와 검은 배경 사이로 밝게 빛나는 인물의 얼굴은 마치 한줄기 빛이 쏟아지는 것처럼 보인다. 어두운 풍경 사이에 드러나는 하얀 반짝임은 주변과 대조를 이루어 더욱 두드러진다.
The white masses recurring frequently in my artworks emerge, shining amidst darkness. Sometimes they are light, fire, and water. White flames and smoke, waves and foam burst and soar in a monochrome landscape, scattering in all directions. Also, they can range from stars in the sky to fruits and flower buds that are within reach. In this way, things that do not resemble each other overlap in a white, round shape and in a transparent and shiny way.
어두움 속에서 빛남으로써 드러나는 것. 작품에 반복하여 등장하는 하얀 덩어리가 그러하다. 그것은 때로는 빛이기도, 불이기도, 물이기도 하다. 흰 불꽃과 연기, 파도와 물거품이 무채색의 풍경 속에서 터져 오르고 솟아나며 흩어진다. 또한, 잡히지 않는 하늘의 별부터 지척에 닿는 열매와 꽃봉오리가 되기도 한다. 서로 닮지 않은 것들이 하얗고 둥글며, 투명하고 반짝이며 겹쳐진다.
