WHITE MASS
하얀 덩어리
2016 The white masses are an expression that has evolved from the initial depict of a white stake in the early works, progressing through representations of a white door and white smoke. The indistinct form of white masses and the ambiguous identity inherent in the color white add an unfamiliarity to the landscape and infuse it with symbolism. For instance, white embodies the absence of color and simultaneously its presence. When viewed in contrast to black on the spectrum, white signifies the absence of color. However, when seen as opacity masking transparency, white becomes a presence of color. Furthermore, while white, when regarded as a substance in terms of pigments, signifies the absence of hue, when observed in terms of light, it can be considered the sum of all colors. It is a color that is nothing yet everything, simultaneously devoid and all-encompassing.
하얀 덩어리는 초기 작품의 하얀 말뚝에서부터 하얀 문, 하얀 연기를 거치며 이어진 표현이다. 하얀 덩어리의 불분명한 형상과 흰색 특유의 모호한 정체성은 풍경에 이질감을 더하고 상징성을 불어넣는다. 예를 들어, 흰색은 색의 없음이면서 동시에 있음이다. 흰색을 검은색의 반대 선상에 놓고 본다면 색의 없음이다. 그러나 흰색을 투명함을 가리는 불투명함으로 본다면 그것은 색의 있음이다. 또한, 흰색은 그것을 물질로써의 안료로 바라보았을 때는 색채의 부재를 의미하지만, 빛으로 바라본다면 색채의 총합이라고 할 수 있다. 아무것도 아닌 색인 동시에 모든 것인 색이다.


White Stake
The ethereal white stake serves as an indirect expression of objects or subjects that are forbidden to be mentioned or depicted. The appearance of the white stake signifies a situation of unilateral surveillance and restriction, leading the surveilled individual to reenact and repeat the act of self-surveillance even in their daily life.
하얀 말뚝
실체가 없는 하얀색의 말뚝은 사생과 묘사가 금지된 대상에 대한 간접적 인 표현이다. 하얀색 말뚝의 등장은 일방적으로 행해지는 감시와 제한의 상황과, 이로 인해 피감시자가 일상 속에서도 스스로 감시를 재현하고 반복함을 의미한다.
